The Garza West Transfer Facility is a medium-security correctional facility situated in Texas. The Garza West Transfer Facility houses over 2,200 offenders. All offenders in the Garza West Transfer Facility are male inmates.

On the same piece of land, you will find Garza East facility too. This land is over 300 acres big.

But the west side is responsible for all booking and processing of the offenders. These offenders typically are coming into the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for the first time. This booking process can take from a few days to a few weeks since the process consists of assessments upon assessments.

When this process is complete, they will be transferred to their long-term correctional facility.

Inmate Search

If your family or friend just entered the Texas Department of Criminal Justice and they are male, they will more than likely be held in the Garza West Transfer Facility. If you want to see if he is in this facility, please do a quick inmate search here.

This will be able to tell if he’s in here, or if he’s already been shipped out to his long-term facility center.

Inmate Mail

The most common thing all inmates can do with little money is to write home. Writing home doesn’t nearly cost as much as calling home. Many inmates will opt-in to writing their friends and family letters because it is more economical.

Inmates are responsible for purchasing the items they need to write these letters and with money being tight, this is one way they can stay in contact easier.

All letters are opened once the facility receives them. Inmates will get mail passed out to them during the weekdays. This process can take up to a week before they get their letter.

Commissary

When an inmate calls and asks for money, they are not lying. They need money to survive in the facility. Money is a huge thing even in prison. Inmates need money for everyday supplies like you and me.

The easiest way to give an inmate some money is using JPAY. JPAY makes paying an inmate extremely easy. Please note that when putting money on an inmate’s books, you will also be charged a 10% fee for using this service.

Inmate Calls

While an inmate is in the Garza West Transfer Facility, they will only be allowed to make collect calls. This can be hard on people as collect calls must be made to landline phones only. If you do not have a landline phone, you will not get this call.

Many families choose to get a landline phone for this reason. Just so the inmate can call them when they have the chance. However, also please be aware that you will be responsible for these collect call fees.

Inmate Visits

As of December 2020, the Garza West Transfer Facility has stopped its visitation. The reason behind stopping visitation is due to the pandemic that is going through the nation. With the numbers of COVID rising, the facility decided it was best to stop visitation to protect their staff, their inmates, and you.
