Aransas County Detention Center, TX is a County medium-security detention center situated at 811 East Concho St Rockport in Texas State. It is a temporary inmate’s holding locally operated by the Aransas County Sheriff’s Office. Inmates held here are either waiting to be tried by the local justice system or have already been sentenced for not more than two years. The facility further serves as a hold-up for the local US Marshal’s Service, the Rockport Police Department, surrounding towns, and municipal authorities. Some of these do not have a holding facility of their own.

Each year, this facility flaunts about 4240 bookings with a daily capacity of 212 inmates under the stewardship of 53 jail staff members. The inmates vary in crimes committed; some are awaiting trials for violent crimes such as murder, rape, and robbery, while others are held up for misdemeanors. Consequently, the facility’s security is relatively high, with the correctional officers armed with maces and highly trained to handle inmates accordingly.

When the inmates awaiting trials are finally sentenced for more than two years, they are transferred to other larger state prisons or BOP facilities. Illegal immigrants, on the other hand, may be transferred into ICE custody for deportation.

Mails and Care Packages

Inmates can receive and send mails, postcards, greeting cards, and publications to their loved ones via the United Postal Services.

Mails

You cannot send mails via third-party avenues such as FedEx or UPS. Moreover, you have to include your credentials alongside a valid return address for the mails to be delivered.

Incoming mails are inspected to prevent the smuggling of illegal items that may compromise the facility’s security or the wellbeing of all stakeholders. Sending and receiving of mails comes with some rules, including the following:

  • The mails must be written in pencil, black or blue ink.
  • All mails should be indicated with the correct mail address and have a return address failure to which they will be stored until the inmate is released for them to be handed out.
  • The mails content should not compromise the facility’s security by describing the manufacture of weapons, incendiary devices, tools of escape, or bombs.
  • The mails should not advocate for racial supremacy, violence, or ethnic purity
  • Inmates cannot send mails to fellow inmates

Greeting Cards and Postcards

Inmates can also receive greeting cards and postcards on holidays and special occasions. These should also have clean content, and like mails, they come with some rules. No sexual or sexually suggestive content is allowed, and they cannot have stickers, glitter, or any other disallowed substances.

You can send your greeting cards and postcards on the following occasions: birthdays, Christmas, Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving, Father’s Day, New Year’s, Easter, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Ramadan, Valentine’s Day, or Passover.

You can also send your loved one up to 15 photos as long as they do not exceed 4” by 6” in size and are not polaroids.

Publications

Aransas County Detention Center also allows inmates access to publications such as books and magazines. Publications are held in high regard in incarceration, making them very priceless. It is quite satisfying for an inmate to receive their favorite book or magazine publication every month. Books and magazines have some strict rules attached to their sending:

  • They must be obtained directly from a reputable vendor or publisher.
  • They cannot be sent through envelopes.
  • An inmate’s credentials should be affixed to the address label.

For periodical magazines, you can easily subscribe in place of an inmate; it takes less than two minutes. You just visit the grocery and find an inmate’s favorite magazine; each magazine has a little card you fill with an inmate’s name, ID number, and correct facility’s address. Even better, you can subscribe online via the authorized sites. With this avenue, you just select a magazine title and then add an inmate’s credentials. This arguably the fastest means to send your loved one their favorite magazine. However, it comes with some charges.
