Below you will find everything you need to know about Nevada Youth Training Center including how to see if the person you are looking for is actually there.

General Information About the Facility

Nevada Youth Training Center is a county jail which means that inmates may not stay there for very long. If they have committed a smaller crime, they will be jailed in a county jail up to 3 years.

If an offender has committed a more serious crime, they will be transferred to a state prison. Most inmates will stay in a county jail until they are fully sentenced.

Nevada Youth Training Center is located at 100 Youth Center Road
PO Box 459, Elko, NV, 89801. The jail is at a medium security level, and is for adults who have committed a crime or offense in Clark County.

Daily Life in Nevada Youth Training Center

Daily life in county jail works a little differently than federal prison. This is because detainees are delivered daily and some may stay only a few days, but rarely more than 3 years.

Nevada Youth Training Center is divided into pods. Each pod has cells, common areas, and an outside recreation court. There are typically only 3 inmates per cell unless the jail is crowded.

Inside the cells is only a sliver of a window. Common areas have tables made of solid steel attached to the floor for inmates to play cards or board games.

How to Find an Inmate

Nevada Youth Training Center houses and serves inmates on a daily basis. Because inmates are coming in and out, you can call 775-738-7182 for their current roster.

You can also do an inmate search by using VINELink online. Click find an offender. You will need to know the offender’s first and last name. This will give you the exact location of the offender as well as their offender ID which you will want to write down.

Commissary

Within every jail or prison is a commissary. A commissary is a store where inmates can purchase additional items that they may need while incarcerated. Inmates can get the following items at Nevada Youth Training Center:

  • Clothing

  • Shoes

  • Hygiene products

  • Razors

  • Books

  • Magazines

  • TVs

  • Radios

  • Playing cards

  • Headphones

  • Tablets (no internet access)

  • MP3 players

If you choose, you can send money to an inmate for them to purchase these items at the commissary. They will need money on their books to purchase any items.

To send money, you will need to call the facility at 775-738-7182 to find the best way to put money on an inmate’s books. Usually, you can send a money order, moneygram, or cashiers check.

You will want to have the inmate’s first and last name, their offender ID, and the address of the jail they are incarcerated at.

Staying in Contact with an Inmate

It is very important for an inmate to be able to stay in contact with positive friends and family. Research has shown this helps them to focus on rehabilitation and keep them out of jail in the future.

There are several ways you can stay in contact with an inmate at the Nevada Youth Training Center.

You can send them mail. From packages and gifts to postcards and letters, mail is a great way to stay in contact. Send mail addressed to the offender with their ID number to 100 Youth Center Road
PO Box 459, Elko, NV, 89801. You must have a return address.

You can visit an inmate. You will be limited to only two people visiting the inmate at one time. You will also need to fill out a visitor application. Call 775-738-7182 to get more information about visiting.

All visits are non-contact. You will see each other through a glass partition.

You can receive calls from an inmate. Although inmates in Nevada Youth Training Center cannot receive incoming calls, they can make outgoing calls. These calls are collect which means the person receiving them will need to pay for the incoming call.

If you have an friend or family member in the Nevada Youth Training Center, rest assured that they are in good hands and will be taken care of.
