Elko County in Nevada is the fourth largest county in the United States (excluding Alaska). Its population is roughly 50,000, and has increased over time. The county itself is notable because of its large amount of ranching land and natural mining resources. This also means that there is a large population of transients that live in Elko County. In order to secure this large area, the Elko County Sheriff’s Department patrols and builds community relations, providing safety and other services for the inhabitants of Elko County.

The Elko County Jail was built to serve this purpose. It is located in Elko, Nevada next to the juvenile detention facility of the same name. It is roughly one mile and a half away from the Elko County Courthouse. Most offenders incarcerated in the Elko County Jail roster have been charged with battery, shoplifting, or a DUI. This is a medium-security facility. Elko County Jail can hold up to 120 offenders at a time.

Elko County Sheriff

The Elko County Jail is run by the Elko County Sheriff’s Department, the largest law enforcement entity in Elko County. The current sheriff is Aitor Narvazia. This department also provides law enforcement for the City of Wells, Spring Creek, Ruby Valley, Jackpot, and Montello.

Bail at Elko County Jail

Inmates at Elko County Jail are able to be bailed out at any time of day. The jail does accept payments made by bail bondsmen. Alternatively, you can deliver cash to post bail in person at the jail lobby.

Visitation at Elko County Jail

The prison offers the option of either in-person visits or video calls to inmates. Visits are available starting at 7:30 am every day of the week. Before your visit, you will need to fill out the appropriate paperwork and submit it to Elko County.

Video call visits may be conducted from a computer that has high-speed internet, a webcam and microphone, and speakers. Inmates may have 2 30 minute visits in this manner every week. If they would like additional visits, they must pay $9 per 30 minute visit after the initial two videocalls.

Money for Inmates

Certain services within the prison require money. The prison commissary needs inmates to pay for the items within it, and video calls require the inmates to pay. The funds for these activities come from the account that the inmate has with the jail itself.

Sending money to an incarcerated loved one is a great way to support them while they serve out their sentence. You can deposit money for an inmate in-person at the kiosk located within the Sheriff’s Office, or online. In-person deposits may be made with cash, credit, or debit cards. If you deposit funds online, you must use a card. The website for sending money to an inmate is www.smartdeposit.com/.

You can also send money to an inmate’s account by mailing a money order or cashier’s check to the jail’s address if it is less than $150.

Phone Services

Inmates within the Elko County Jail are not able to receive calls. However, they may place outgoing calls at certain points throughout the day. Phone calls require the inmate to have funds in their account. If they do not have the necessary funds in their account, the inmate will be granted a grace period during their first call to you that has no charge. This si so the inmate can explain their situation, as well as the phone rules for the Elko County Jail. Once their time is up, you will be prompted to either pay for the current call, deposit money in the inmate’s account to continue, or deposit funds into an account for your phone number.

If you choose to deposit funds into an account associated with your phone number, the funds will only be used when the inmate calls you. The inmate will not be able to reach any other phone number with the funds that you have deposited.

When receiving a call from Elko County Jail, you will hear an automated message before the conversation begins. This will let you know the name of the inmate calling and ask if you would like to accept the call.
