Types of Correctional Facilities in Wisconsin

Those who are sentenced to a federal prison in Wisconsin are overseen and maintained by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC). The Wisconsin DOC has a centralized inmate database which makes it easy to search for an inmate in any prison throughout the state.

Although you can use the database to search for inmates in federal prison, you will not be able to find those in county jails, police jails, or city jails. You will need to go to their individual websites for information.

Below, you will find information about the Wisconsin Department of Corrections, how to search for an inmate, and how to stay in contact.

Wisconsin DOC Mission

Like other states, Wisconsin Department of Corrections has a mission to uphold both for those incarcerated and the community. At the Wisconsin DOC, they are focussed on public safety through the custody and community supervision of offenders. They offer education, programming, and treatment to offenders to help them be successful upon their return to the community.

How to Search for an Inmate

You will need to do a search for an inmate to find out what facility they are in as well as to acquire information you may need to keep in contact or send money.

You can easily do an inmate search from the Wisconsin DOC homepage. Under the online services tab, you will need to click on inmate and offender locator. Agree to the terms and conditions.

You can search for an inmate by only their last name, but the more information you have, the easier it will be to locate the inmate.

Once you find the inmate you are looking for, you will want to write down pertinent information such as the facility and facility address where the inmate is located, their DOC number (above picture), and their status.

Electronic Messages: With technology, you can now send urgent messages to inmates electronically like a text message through Corrlinks.
