The Austin County Jail in Texas is there to serve Austin County and the surrounding area. It is a medium-security detention facility that often holds inmates who are awaiting their trial and sentencing. Most of the inmates of this facility will spend less than two years there. It is common for this facility to accept inmates from surrounding towns as well as the Belville Police Department and the US Marshal’s Service.

Some inmates of this jail are able to post bond and are released until their trial. Others are not given this privilege or do not have the money to do so. If there is no release, then that inmate needs to wait in the jail until their court appearance. During this time, they are a gust of the county and will be given the necessities they need during the duration of the stay.

At this facility, if an inmate has to stay longer than their court appearance, they can work up to becoming trustees. These are inmates who will work inside the jail in laundry, orderlies to help the staff, and cooks. Trustees can earn a little bit for this work to use at the commissary and also earn time off their sentence.

Calling an Inmate

It is possible to call an inmate at the Austin County jail, though it is sometimes confusing to do this. Inmates who are in the system can make calls, but they are not allowed to receive calls from friends and family. You will need to set up a schedule with the inmate to get calls done at the right time.

Sending Mail to an Inmate

You need to have your full name and address. There also needs to be the name of the inmate, their number, cell block number, and housing facility.

You are not able to send books to the inmates. The only books allowed are ones that come directly from the publisher. Things like perfumed letters, pencils, obscene pictures, pens, envelopes, and greeting cards can’t be sent through the mail either. If the inmate needs some of these items, like the pens and envelopes, they will be able to get these at the jail commissary when they have money in their accounts.

If any of the above rules are violated, the sender will no longer be allowed to send mail to anyone at the Austin County Jail. Always check into the rules and regulations concerning sending mail to avoid any problems.
