Types of Correctional Facilities in Oklahoma

Offenders who are serving their sentence in an Oklahoma state prison are overseen by the Oklahoma Department of Corrections (DOC). With a centralized inmate database, you can search for an inmate easily no matter what facility they are in.

However, inmates who are serving their sentence in county jails, police jails, or city jails will not be found in this database. You will need to go to their websites for that information.

Below you will find information on the Oklahoma DOC, how to do an inmate search, and how to stay in contact with an inmate.

Oklahoma DOC Mission

All state prisons have a mission of their own. The core mission of the Oklahoma Department of corrections is to protect the public, increase public safety, promote safe work environments, and encourage positive change in offender behavior. They promote successful reentry and rehabilitation programs.

How to Search for an Inmate

Doing an inmate search is beneficial because you can locate an inmate, get their ID numbers, and case information that you may need for other reasons.

To search for an inmate at Oklahoma state prisons, you will visit the OK DOC homepage. Click on the button down the page and to the left that says inmate and offender look up.

You will need to accept the terms and conditions. You will be asked for some information: OK DOC number, last name, first name, and date of birth. If you don’t know that information, simply type in the last name, check I am not a robot, and hit search.

You will be given a list of inmates with the same last name that you can choose from. From there you will want to write down their OK DOC number, date of birth, and the facility they are at.

How to Stay in Communication

Letters: Mailing letters to an inmate is a great way to stay in contact. Using the facility location found in the inmate search, you can send a loved one letters. Make sure to include the following information on the envelope:

  • ODOC number
  • Offenders full name
  • The complete address of the facility

Visiting: In order to visit an inmate, you will need to fill out the visitor’s request form.

Phone calls: Inmates cannot receive incoming calls, but they can make collect calls. If you do not have a landline or contract service, you can set up a prepaid account through Connect Network so an offender can call you.

How to Send Money

There are a couple ways you can send money to an inmate. You can send an old-fashioned cashier’s check or money order to the facility, or you can use one of two online banking solutions:

You will need to include the inmate’s name, DOC number, and sender’s name.

It is important to follow all rules and procedures. They are put there to keep visitors, workers, and inmates safe.
