Originally, Newaygo County Jail was founded and opened in 1967 and could only hold up to thirty-six prisoners. However, as time went on, Newaygo County boomed in population and the jail was simply too small to house the amount of prisoners coming in.
The jail began a large expansion project in 1989 and was completed in 1990. After the expansion, there were 212 beds and an average of 190 people in the facility on any given day. However, this was not the end of the population boom for the county and another expansion was finished in late 2010.
Now the facility has 258 beds, a new administrative office, and a new address. Once sitting comfortably at 300 Williams Street, White Cloud, MI, the facility and sheriff’s office now reside on 1035 E. James Street, White Cloud, MI.
This medium-security prison is still considered small compared to others but is a fine facility with many helpful services offered to the public and the inmates themselves.
Inmate Lookup
This facility publishes all of their inmate’s names that currently reside with them. This search will be the most accurate way to ensure a certain inmate is there but you will have to travel to the prison itself to access it.
Another way to look up a specific inmate is through Inmateaid’s website. While this website is not always perfect, it is updated frequently and has helped many friends and family find which facility their loved ones are in.
Looking up a Newaygo County Jail inmate will require you to know their first name, last name and register number. The search results will bring up their mugshots, personal information, their location, and their release date.
There is also a service called VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday) that provides the victims of crimes a method of searching for their offender’s custody status. You can use their website or call their toll-free number at 1-800-770-7657 to get this information.
