Shasta County Jail is located at 1655 West Street, Redding, California. The jail is high security and meant to be a local detention facility. Shasta County houses people who are pending charges,  are awaiting trial with or without bone, and upon sentencing. The jail holds up to 484 prisoners, with room for 404 males and 80 females. Shasta County jail is also attached to the Municipal and Superior Courts for Shasta County, making the entire complex the local justice center. Shasta County is a larger jail and offers work release options as well as continuing education. Shasta is one of few systems that offer VINE, which is explained later in this article. Shasta Jail is part of the custody division and provides efficient operation for the facility in terms of energy and keeping the facility up to date for safe use by inmates. Read below for more info about how Shasta jail intends to work.

Visiting Shasta Jail

Like many prisons, Shasta County jail requires you contact them first to schedule a time to come in. You will also be provided with your specific inmates visitation schedule, as it can vary. The visiting hours for most prisoners are 8:30 am to 11:30 am and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm 7 days per week with 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm also allowed on the weekends. A visitor must present verifiable identification like a Visa, Stated ID, or Driver’s License. Inmates are allowed a maximum of 2 visitors per inmate at a time and allowed a maximum of one visit per day.  Visitors are asked to bring very little with them and are not allowed to carry a purse, or any carry in items, including packages, books, or mail.

Inmates who are also workers are allowed a bit more with one hour instead of 30 minutes.

The jail does not currently appear to support video visits for inmates so that citizens can use video calls from their home to see their in custody friends and family.

Finding a Shasta County person in custody

The Shasta County jail inmate search allows the public to see Shasta County jail inmates and can be found here. After agreeing to liability and warranty issues regarding up to date info, the list is shown. The list contains every person in the jail and their booking date and doesn’t require an initial search to see anything. Also provided are bail amounts and whether or not an inmate has bail possible.

Their individual custody pages show the reason for jail time, vital info, in some cases a photo and also links users to the commissary and VINE. VINE allows users to receive notification when a person’s custody status has changed and is sometimes used by the victims of crimes to know the person in custody is out. The inmate search also allows users to link back and see visiting hours and commissary information.

The search itself is flexible and takes any input and applies it to the first, middle, and last name. Dave, for example, provides results that include Dave within a first name and for a last name.

Sheriff

Sheriff Eric Magrini leads the Shasta County Sheriff’s Department. He began as a police officer in Jaunary of 1998. Eric was named the Exchange Club’s Peace Officer of the Year and earned promotion to detective in 2008 and was named 2011 Sheriff Office’s Deputy of the Year. Eric was selected to attend the FBI National Academy in 2016 and completed their Executive Management Course while he also completed his Bachelor of Science degree in  Criminal Justice.

The Sheriff’s Office also provides Code Red Notifications and VINE Link, as mentioned above, for offering real time notification about emergencies, missing child reports, and specific inmates freed from custody. These notifications keep citizens safe by informing them about issues ahead and helping others lookout for child abduction or missing issues.

Most arrests in Shasta County are transported to Shasta County Jail for temporarily holding at the jail until time of trial or they are bonded out.

Report Online

Shasta County allows citizens to file a non-emergency report online. The form itself also offers 911 if you do select the situation as an emergency. Users must be over 18 and file a report about a non state freeway incident. The page isn’t especially specific about what constitutes the kind of incident to report, but does also exclude identity theft as well as crimes in unincorporated areas. The online report system is designed to help those who don’t wish to make a phone call and would rather submit basic info over the Internet.

Commissary and Purchases

Shasha County jail inmates can purchase from the commissary weekly on Sunday with a maximum weekly purchase amount of $100. Funds can be sent to inmates by way of a secure deposit in the lobby or paid through places like www.inmatedeposits.com. We do not accept deposits via mail.

Work Release

Work release is an option for qualified offenders to potentially live at home and report to a work facility for public service tasks. These inmates are less expensive as they don’t need to live at the facilities and their pay offsets the cost of the rest of the program. Work release also allows families to stay together while they work. Jobs include working on roads and other city owned and operated places.

Bail

You must have the exact dollar amount for bailing a person out of jail. Verifiable personal checks are required for up to $1000, or a cashier’s check or money order for the dollar amount. Bring money to the reception area of the mail jail. A bail bond agency can be contacted via the Internet or yellow pages if a bond is needed.
