The Sawyer County Jail is located in Hayward, Wisconsin and serves the surrounding area. The jail itself has been in service since 1973, when the first wing opened. At this time, the Sawyer County Jail was only capable of holding 34 inmates at a time. The fully constructed wing was known as the Huber Wing of the jail.
Sawyer County Jail offers the Huber program for some of its inmates to aid with their rehabilitation and reintegration into society. This allows them to deposit their paychecks into their canteen account within the jail and gain work experience at the same time. These job positions are heavily regulated to protect both the inmates and the community. All inmates are required to stay on the job site without contacting their family and friends. Any change in location such as rides to or from work, must be approved by the jail and the employer.
Since 1973, the Sawyer County Jail has undergone renovations in order to better serve its community. 2007 saw the addition of a secure wing to the facility, with an increase of 52 inmates to the total capacity. In 2009, further remodeling expanded the Huber Wing, leaving the jail with a current capacity of 92 inmates.

Huber Program
Inmates kept in the Huber Wing are considered minimum security. They are offered privileges based on good behavior, which includes participation in the Huber program. The Huber program gives inmates a significant advantage when it comes to reintegration in society after their term is up.
The Huber program is only open to minimum security inmates, and they are carefully monitored to ensure that they do not pose any kind of danger to the community. To get involved with the Huber Program, inmates have to submit the proper forms to the jail and receive approval.
While enrolled in the Huber program, inmates are given the opportunity to be employed. Other notable benefits of the program include educational opportunities, housekeeping, aid in job searching, and community service at the jail itself.
Huber inmates are responsible for their own medical care when employed through the program. They are allowed to visit an outside medical professional upon approval from the jail. Other inmates must use the jail nurse or doctor to address any medical issues.
To be approved to visit an outside doctor, inmates have to submit the proper paperwork to the jail nurse or doctor at least two days before the appointment. When returning from their appointment, the inmates must submit the proper forms that describe medical findings from their appointment to the jail doctor.
JailATM
By using the JailATM service, you can post bond for inmates or deposit money in their accounts. This is a good way for outside friends or family to still supply inmates with aid. You will be required to make an account to send any money through JailATM.
Wisconsin does not allow outside bail companies to pay for inmates. Any bond payment must be made by a friend or family member.
