Located in the diverse San Jacinto County, the San Jacinto County Jail provides services for the surrounding areas. The county itself is northeast of Houston. Depending on the time of year, there can be up to 100,000 people in the county. One of the main appeals is the national forest and Lake Livingston.

The prison itself provides medium security incarcerations for up to 145 inmates at a time. These inmates are from nearby towns and areas. The US Marshal’s Service and the Coldspring Police Department also use this prison, as they do not have a detention facility of their own. Most of the inmates within the prison have been sentenced to less than a total of two years. Jails that are located outside of San Jacinto County will also pay San Jacinto to house their inmates, but these inmates are usually less than 30% of the total prison population. Counties that use this service include Trinity County, Montgomery County, Houston County, and Tyler County, as well as the Alabama-Coushatta Tribe.

Because the prison is designed for short-term stays, it does not operate in the same way that a state or federal prison does. Instead, the jail is made up of a series of pods which include cells, common areas, and the outside yard for recreation. The common areas have solid metal tables secured to the floor for inmates to use. The cells have small windows to provide light and air for the inmates.

Offenders that have committed more serious offenses will be transferred to a state or federal prison, but they may be temporarily incarcerated in San Jacinto County Jail while transportation is arranged for them.

Jail Roster

The jail makes the arrest records of its inmates public for viewing. To search San Jacinto County arrests for a loved one, you can visit the official site at http://sjcsotx.us/booking.html, or use a web search function to perform a specific inmate search. VINElink has all of the most recent information about arrests in San Jacinto County at https://vinelink.com/#/home/site/44900.

Please note that the jail has a constantly changing population. Because the inmates located in San Jacinto County Jail have shorter sentences than those incarcerated in other prisons, the jail roster is always updating. If you are trying to locate a specific inmate, it is best to have as much information about them as you can while searching. At bare minimum, you should have the inmate’s first and last name, ideally with their offender ID. To speak to the jail directly about the status of one of their inmates, call (936) 653-4367.

Sending Money to Inmates

When a friend or family member has been incarcerated, it can be difficult to find ways to support them. One of the ways that you can care for someone in San Jacinto County Prison is by sending them money. Money is used in the commissary to buy a variety of products that increase quality of life, such as hygiene items.

In the commissary, the inmate can buy clothing and shoes to supplement the clothing already provided to them by the prison. They can also buy entertainment items such as TV, radio, MPP3 players, headphones, playing cards, or even tablets. None of the electronics purchased will have access to the internet. Reading material may also be bought, such as books or magazines.

In order for an inmate to make purchases at the commissary, they need money in their account. You can deposit money for them. Call (936) 653-4367 to speak with the jail staff about what the best method would be for you to deposit funds into an inmate’s account.

Typically, prisons have multiple options for sending money to inmates. You can use an online service, make a deposit over the phone, or send a cashier’s check. Call the jail and ask what their options are. Always make sure that you have the inmate’s full name and offender ID to confirm that you are sending money to the right person.
