Cooke County Jail, TX is a medium-security correctional facility situated at 300 County Road 451 in Gainesville, Texas. This county jail runs and is operated by the local sheriff’s department and acts as temporary holding for locally apprehended offenders awaiting sentencing and trials in the justice system. As such, most of the inmates housed here do not last for more than two years. Misdemeanor offenders incarcerated for less than two years may serve their whole sentences here, while hard crime criminals sentenced to more than two years are often transferred to other state and federal correctional facilities.

The facility also accepts offenders from surrounding municipalities, towns, the US Marshal’s Service, and the Gainesville Police Department. These entities do not have their own detention centers. This facility’s primary goal is to keep the public safe by custody and control of offenders. However, the inmates are treated with fairness and respect in a humane and safe environment. The inmates are further rehabilitated with correctional programs that encourage positive behavior change and positive attitudes.

Cooke County Jail Records

This facility keeps and maintains records of all the inmates held here and puts them in the public domain. This means that if you need any information about any inmate currently housed in this facility, you can acquire it from multiple sources. You can use private avenues such as prisonroster.com or use the facility’s official website. While private entities offer valid information, it is advisable to use the official avenue since the information here is the most credible and is regularly updated to accommodate new bookings.

A search on either of the stated means presents details about offenders such as mugshots, booking dates, arrest records, booking numbers, release dates, arrest dates, among other details. Such information is critical to other inmate-related endeavors such as sending mails, emails, commissary funds, or even visitation.

Inmate Commissary and Funds

Cooke County Jail offers inmates basic provisions and needs such as beds, three meals, and medical services. However, these are provided in the smallest qualities and quantities possible. As such, to get by the challenging jail life, inmates may need extra items that the jailer does not offer. This facility has a jail canteen or commissary store where inmates can access some allowed additional items. The allowed commissary items include; books, magazines, writing materials, clothing, tablets, hygiene products, supplementary food, and snacks.

However, to purchase these items, inmates are expected to have a fully-funded commissary account. This account acts as an inmate’s bank account and can be funded by their loved ones back at home or people of goodwill. The account also comes in handy to fund inmate calls and self-bailing engagements.

To make deposits, the facility contracts TouchPay as the sole funds’ transfer service provider in this jail. Consequently, you can send money to an inmate’s account via TouchPay through the following avenues:

  • At the onsite TouchPay kiosk at the jail lobby
  • Online on TouchPay website
  • Or by calling TouchPay customer service

All these means allow you to use your credit card, debit card, or cash deposit. To be able to send the funds, a sender has to first open a TouchPay account.

Inmate Care Packages

This facility also allows inmates to receive specifically approved care packages from their loved ones or any other credible source. The facility contracts iCare Gifts as the inmate care packages service provider. This service ensures you can effortlessly purchase an inmate care package, and it is promptly delivered to your loved one housed at Cooke County Jail. You can send your loved ones some nice publications, clothing, snacks, supplementary food, and a plethora of other allowed items. The publications, however, should be sourced directly from a reputable publisher or vendor. These care packages are an ideal way to show your loved ones in jail that you care about them and are supporting their rehabilitation to become better members of the communities.

Keeping in Touch

Inmates at this facility can also access letters from friends and family or even official correspondence from their attorneys. However, to send the mails, you have to have the inmate’s correct details, including full name and the inmate ID. Moreover, you have to include a valid return address for the mail to be delivered to your intended inmate. To get the inmate’s correct details, you can look them up in the inmate roster. Ensure to write the correct address on the mail.

Visitation is also an ideal way to keep tabs on your loved ones in jail and show that you still care about them in spite of their current misery. You can visit an inmate at this facility remotely through video visitation or onsite on predestined days under a specified schedule. However, visitation comes with some rules and regulations that must be adhered to. For queries about visitation, you can check out the sheriff’s FAQ webpage.

The visitation schedule is as follows:

  • Monday – Friday— 7:30 am to 9:00 pm.
  • Saturday-Sunday — 7:30 am to 2:30 pm.

The Cooke County Jail currently has work release security, health services, booking, transportation, central support services, training, and contract services.
