The FCI Memphis is a medium-level security federal correctional institute with an adjacent minimum-security satellite camp and detention center located in Memphis, Tennessee. It is an all-male facility.

The prison currently houses an all-male population of 954 at the FCI and FDC, and 80 at the adjacent minimum-security camp. It is located in Shelby County, Tennessee, and is part of the Mid-Atlantic Board of Prisons region.

Inmates are provided social and medical screening at their time of arrival and are also screened by mental health staff.

Upon the first week of arrival and up to four weeks thereafter, inmates are assigned to the admissions and orientation program. They are provided with a copy of the rules and regulations and briefed on inmates’ rights and responsibilities.

FCI Memphis is organized under a centralized unit management system. Its units are self-contained inmate housing sections staffed by unit teams directly responsible for the inmates living in those sections.

Inmates, upon completing their orientation, are given detail and sent to work. A&O inmates are housed in any of the prison’s general housing population housing quarters. A permanent housing assignment is dictated based on the inmate’s unit assignment and available bed space in the units.

General Visiting Information

Phone Calls

Phone calls are a way that inmates can connect with loved ones to help them maintain community ties. Phone calls cannot be made through a third-party to ensure that no illegal activity is planned or happens on the call.

Restrictions may be placed on inmates making phone calls to make sure that they are following their responsibilities and the correctional facility’s management. Calls are typically monitored, though phone calls to attorneys can be permitted in some circumstances. Phone calls are typically paid for by the inmate.

Email Correspondence

Emails can be used for inmates to correspond with their family and friends through the Trust Fund Limited Inmate Computer System, or TRULINCS.
