How to Search for an Inmate

When an inmate is first sent to prison, it is important to do an inmate search to determine which prison in the State of Pennsylvania the inmate was sentenced to. However throughout the process, an inmate can be transferred to different areas of the facility.

To do an inmate search, click here. Read the disclaimer and agree to it to complete the search. You will be redirected to a page where you can search for the inmate by their last name or their inmate number. When you find the inmate you are looking for, click on their name to see other information.

You will want to write down pertinent information such as the inmate’s number and their current location as you will need this information for visitation, sending money, and sending mail.

How to Stay in Contact with an Inmate

Research has shown that inmates who stay in contact with the outside world are more likely to be rehabilitated. Having a good support system helps an inmate to change what they have done and become a better law abiding citizen in the future.

Therefore, the Harrisburg Community Corrections Center gives inmates and their friends and family several ways to stay in contact.

Send mail

Mail is still an ideal way of staying in contact with an inmate. Not only is it a great way to communicate, but mail is something for an inmate to look forward to. It is encouraged to send mail once a week.

To send mail to an inmate, you will want to make sure it is addressed properly. If you do not know the inmates CDCR number or last location, you will want to do an inmate search to find out that information. Address your envelope in the following way:

Name, CDC#

Daily Life for an Inmate in Prison

Because there is such a variety of security levels, inmates are put on a strict schedule. Also, all rules and procedures must be followed at all times.

Inmates who are not on death row are eligible to work in furniture manufacturing and mattress making. They are given vocation skills such as electrical skills, graphic arts, landscaping, dry cleaning, plumbing, and fabrication.

Inmates are also able to receive education programs such as the GED program and pre-release program that prepares inmates to be released.

Other programs inmates are able to participate in include religious activities, arts and corrections, Shakespeare, anger management, Yoga, gardening, environmental conscientiousness, cultural awareness, health awareness, and more.

When an inmate is first placed in Harrisburg Community Corrections Center, they will be in something called the reception center. They can be in reception up to 120 days. This is to establish their level of security and place them in the appropriate groups.

Because of this, it is important to do an inmate search every so often to ensure an inmate has not been assigned to a different location within the facility.
