Yamhill County Jail is a medium-security correctional facility in McMinnville, Yamhill County, Oregon. Opened in 1920, this facility has a 68-bed capacity and boasts of about 2209 bookings each year from Yamhill County and surrounding municipalities and towns. The facility’s primary goal is to create a safe, secure, and humane jail for the jail staff, inmates, and the community. There are about 150 staff members at this jail.

The inmates at this facility range from low-level misdemeanor offenders to high-level violent crime offenders incarcerated for hard crimes such as murder, rape, and robbery. Security at Yamhill County Jail is beefed up due to the dangerous individuals housed in this facility. As such, the correctional officers are armed with maces and undergo serious training to deal with violence.

The jail has a fully equipped medical facility with two low-maintenance medical caretakers, three full-time attendants, and a low maintenance specialist who takes care of the inmate’s health needs.

Yamhill County Jail Work Release Program

This facility offers a work-release program to relatively less dangerous offenders. The participants are housed in a separate dormitory-style housing unit that has a capacity of 50 inmates. The program’s participants live in this work release center but are let go each day for their regular jobs. This way, these inmates serve their sentences while still keeping their jobs to support their families or pay court-ordered restitution to the crime victims.

If an inmate meets the threshold for participating in this program, they are assigned to the local sheriff’s work crew who perfume community service projects across the county. Based on the work done, inmates can even get some time off their sentences.
