Clermont County Jail is located at 4470 State Route 222 in Batavia, Ohio 45103 right next to the courthouse and Sheriff’s department. Clermont County jail houses a variety of inmates ranging from people who are recently arrested and are awaiting trial or to get out on bond to people who have been sentenced and convinced. The jail has multiple security sections ranging from minimum to maximum with a different number of beds and different facilities for each. The jail has been renovated a couple of times to make the facility more modern and safer for both inmates and jail workers, including state of the art communications systems. The Clermont county jail also makes use of the VINE communications systems for their inmate’s victims in post release. The jail also offers opportunities for well behaved inmates to work inside the jail and on city property under the right conditions. See below for instructions on how to communicate with inmates.

Clermont County Inmates

Clermont County inmates are kept in three sections. The maximum-security section is the original built in 1986 and houses 128 inmates in individual cells. This section has its own medical facility, recreation area, food service, and other services. This area was upgraded and expanded in 2003 to enhance security and communications.

The medium security area has 192 beds in double bunks cells for less dangerous inmates. The minimum security section closed in 2006 in favor of the medium security section and will reopen if capacity is needed with funding. At the moment, the minimum security is not in use because of a lack of inmates.

While mugshots are not provided of the inmate, users can see the complete name, offense committed, booking date, and bail/bond amount needed to get the inmate out. There is no search though the entire list is alphabetical and quite easy to search a specific name.

Programs

Clermont County offers in jail programs to help rehabilitate offenders. In addition to Alcoholics Anonymous, religious services, and general education degree courses, the jail offers a popular Sheriff’s Trustee Program for low risk offenders. These offenders can work and perform janitorial, kitchen and landscaping services for the Sheriff’s Office. The program lets inmates out of their cells and saves the county money hiring out.

The program helps people who might otherwise be surprised by the presence of an inmate in their community. Vine conveniently can text, email, or call a person who has signed up to be notified when an inmate is released.

Sheriff’s Department

The Sheriff’s Department website offers basic info about the department. Considerations are made for conceal and carry permits, which is a service conducted through the department, as well as info on underage drinking. One can also find their criminal arrest and crime reports on their website.

Sheriff Leahy also began offering an academy for new officers who want to possible be corrections officers. Capt Bill Hogue serves as the commander and provides good education in being a safe, efficient jail worker at a lower cost than attending school.

Money and Property

All basic needs are met by the Clermont County Jail. The jail does have a commissary for purchasing extra toiletries, snacks, or entertainment from books or magazines. Money can be sent in via the commissary provider’s website here. One can also call the provider or send a money order to Clermont County Jail in the inmate’s name. Inmates are not allowed access to cash but can debit directly at the commissary. Inmates can also only be provided medically necessary items like eyeglasses or prescription medications.

Sending mail and property is different from sending to a normal address. You must write the inmate’s name on the envelope and the envelope must have a return address to verify the location and name of sender. The purpose is to allow legal representatives to send information to inmates without being opened and to ensure that improperly sent mail is routed back to the sender.

Visitors can contact the jail directly to arrange a time and jail staff are not allowed to tell visitors specifics about the inmate’s visitation schedule. Otherwise, collect calls can be made and inmates may purchase prepaid calling cards with minutes on them to make calls to family and friends. Inmates can also purchase writing materials including paper and envelopes to write letters to people outside the prison.
