Types of Correctional Facilities in North Dakota
Those who are serving their sentence in a North Dakota state prison are overseen by the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DOCR). The DOCR has a centralized inmate database that makes it easy for you to search for an inmate.
However, those who are in a county jail, police jail, or county jail will not be found on the North Dakota DOCR website. You will need to visit their respective sites to find proper information.
Below you will find information for inmate lookup across all prisons.
North Dakota DOCR Mission
All prisons throughout the state have a mission that they actively follow. The North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation seeks to enhance public safety, and to reduce the risk of future criminal behavior by holding adults and juveniles accountable and providing them opportunities for change.
How to Search for an Inmate
Searching for an inmate makes it easier for you to obtain information about the inmate to send mail, visit, or talk to an inmate.
From the North Dakota DOCR homepage, you will click on the tab family and friends and then click resident lookup. You will begin your search by entering the residents last name. From there, you can click on the correct resident to obtain their information.
Be sure to write down the ID number, facility, and address the offender is in as you will need this information for other things.
If you know the offender’s facility, you can look up the addresses, here as well.
How to Stay in Contact
There are various ways for a friend or family member to stay in contact with an offender. However, to keep everyone safe, you will be required to meet certain criteria.
Talk on the Phone
If you wish for an inmate to call you, you will need to fill out the telephone application and mail it into the facility. It is only accepted through mail. Once you are on the approved list, the offender will be given access to call you.
If you wish to pay for these calls or have a cell phone, you can set up a prepaid account through Securus Technologies.
Because inmates are not allowed to receive incoming phone calls, sending an email is a great way to let them know something before they can call, again. To send an electronic message to an inmate, you will need to sign up for Jpay.
Visit
If you wish to visit an inmate, you will need to fill out the visitor application and mail it into the facility. You will have to be approved before you will be allowed to visit.
How to Send Money to an Inmate
In order for an inmate to call you, they will either need you to have a prepaid account, or money in their account. If you wish to send money to an inmate, you can easily send money in five different ways:
Jpay mobile app: Download the app to send money anytime, anywhere.
Jpay: Send money from your computer with Jpay.
Phone: Using a Mastercard or Visa, you can put money on their account by calling 1-800-574-5729.
MoneyGram: Send cash using the code: 1304.
Money Orders: Use the money order deposit form. Send money orders payable to Jpay, PO Box 822700, Pembroke Pines, FL 33082
It is important to follow all procedures and rules regarding the inmate. Keep in mind these measures are put into place to keep visitors, inmates, and workers safe.
