Transylvania County Jail is a county medium-security correctional facility in Brevard, North Carolina. Built on 26th September 1887, this facility is under the county government’s stewardship under the direct supervision of the County Sheriff’s Department. The sheriff and his team are responsible for the security of the inmates and their general well-being.

Most inmates here are awaiting their trial and sentences in the local justice system. However, others are serving small sentences for minor crimes, and their time in jail does not exceed two years. This facility sources inmates from the county and the surrounding municipalities and towns.

Inmates at this facility are permitted to participate in various work and educational programs. The primary educational program is GED, and inmates can freely sign up. The work program enables inmates to earn a few bucks as they serve their time in jail. This way, they can offer child support, take care of their loved ones or pay court-issued fines.
