Types of Correctional Facilities in New Mexico
Offenders who are serving their sentence in a New Mexico state prison are overseen by the New Mexico Corrections Department. They have a centralized inmate database for all the inmates in state prison which makes it easy for you to search for an inmate.
Keep in mind that only inmates in state prisons will be in this database. Those serving in county jails, police jails, or city jails can be found on those respective websites.
Below, you will find instructions on how to lookup an inmate as well as how to stay in contact with them.
New Mexico Corrections Department Mission
Every state has its own mission when it comes to state prisons. The men and women working for the New Mexico Corrections Department are committed to the safety of everyone by doing the “right” thing, always. They set ethical standards and correctional best practices through the following core values: courage, responsibility, ethics, and dedication.
How to Search for an Inmate
There are two ways you can search for an inmate from the homepage. You can click on offender search on the left-hand side, or you can click the offender search button in the middle of the page.
You can search for the offender by their first or last name. Or, you can search for the offender using their NMCD or offender number. If you only know their last name, the system will bring up a list of inmates that you can search there.
Once you do the inmate search, you will have access to information such as the facility the inmate is located at, their offender number, and their NMCD number. You will want to write all their information down to use it for other purposes.
How to Stay in Contact with an Inmate
Staying in contact with loved ones is key to an offender’s well-being and rehabilitation. There are several ways you can stay in contact with a loved one.
Visit an Inmate: To visit a loved one, the offender must put you on their visiting list. Then, you will need to fill out a visitor application to be approved for visits.
Send mail: Using the facility information found in your inmate search, you can send an offender mail to the facility they are being held in.
Phone: Phone calls can be made by inmates during certain times. You can set up an account through Securus Correctional Billing Services to pay for these calls.
How to Send Money to an Inmate
If you want to send money to an inmate, you can only send it to them if you are on the approved visitors list. You can only send money orders to the prison where the inmate is located. Please include the inmate’s name and number on the money order.
Having a loved one in prison can be tough for everyone. With this information, the process will be a lot smoother.
