Types of Correctional Facilities in New Hampshire

Those who are serving time in a New Hampshire state prison are overseen by the New Hampshire Department of Corrections. Through a centralized inmate database, you can easily search for an inmate.

Keep in mind that those who are not in a state prison will not be in this centralized database. For those serving time in county jails, police jails, or city jails, you will need to go to their websites to find information.

Below, you will find instructions to help you search for an inmate. From there you will be able to use that information to visit, send money, or send mail to them.

New Hampshire DOC Mission

The mission of the New Hampshire Department of Corrections is to ensure a safe, secure, and humane correctional system by providing effective supervision and appropriate treatment of individuals, and a continuum of services that help promote a successful reentry into society.

How to Search for an Inmate

Searching for an inmate on the DOC database is very easy to do. From the DOC homepage, you will look on the left-hand side and click on the inmate locator.

You will need to know the inmates first and last name in order to complete the search. If you only know their last name, you will get a list of inmates with the last name that you can then search through.

From the search, you will be able to find the facility the inmate is located at, their offense, their inmate ID, and docket number. You will want to write all of this information down.

How to Communicate with an Inmate

Being able to stay in contact with loved ones is crucial for an offender to be rehabilitated. There are several ways you can stay in communication with a loved one.

Phone: Inmates cannot receive incoming calls, but they can make calls. An inmate can call you collect, or you can set up a prepaid account with Global Tel Link.

Email: Inmates can send and receive emails through shared tablets throughout the facility. These messages must be paid by the inmate. Or, you can set up an account through Global Tel Link.

Mail: Of course, sending mail is still the best way to stay in contact with an offender. You will need the name of the facility that you found on the inmate search. From there, you can find the facility address on the facility page.

How to Send Money to an Inmate

If you would like to send money to an inmate, you can do so by sending a personal check or money order through the mail. Be sure to include the inmate’s name and ID number (found on the inmate search) to the money order or check.

You can also send an electronic payment through the Connect Network. Kiosks have also been set up around the NHDOC correctional facilities where you can deposit money into an inmate’s account.

As you are doing an inmate search and communicating with an inmate, it is important to remember all rules and regulations are put in place to keep everyone safe.
