Pontotoc County Inmates
As a State of Mississippi Department of Corrections official area location, the majority of the day-to-day rules, regulations, and available services are decided by the state. Inmates being housed at the facility have access to a variety of services during their stay. All inmate information is posted to the state website.
Phone Service
The Pontotoc County Jail uses the state-approved telephone service provider, Global Tel Link, for all inmate telephone service. Only outgoing calls are allowed at the facility, and all calls must be paid for through a Global Tel Link account, or they will be collect. Inmates or family members use the AdvancePay system by calling 1-800-483-8314. Payments are accepted through this automated system 24 hours a day. This system will allow the caller to make a credit card payment to add funds or check the account balance. Customer service can be reached at 1-877-650-4249 during business hours (Monday thru Friday from 6:00 am – 10 pm CST) to resolve problems with an account.
Mail Service
Inmates at the facility can receive mail during their sentence. Mail should be sent to the jail’s address, clearly labeled with the inmate’s name and id number. It must also have a complete return address. All mail, incoming as well as outgoing, will be searched before it enters/leaves the facility.
The following items will not be allowed:
- Hygiene or medical items/food/writing material
- Hardback books/cassettes/ video tapes/CDs
- Packages
- Money orders or receipts from money orders
- Vulgar or explicit photos/polaroid photos
Commissary
Personal property may not be sent to an inmate or dropped off at the facility. While the facility provides everything that the inmate needs, additional items can be purchased through the commissary. Friends or family may make deposits to an inmate’s commissary account. Western Union can also be used to send funds directly to the facility.
Medical Services
All inmates in the facility will have access to medical and dental services. The prisoner can request these by filling out a written request for services. These are only allowed for specific symptoms or problems, and general requests will not be honored. In emergency situations, a written request will not be necessary.
Mississippi state law allows facilities to require the prisoner to pay a co-payment for receiving medical services. These are waived for chronic care situations, follow-up visits, mental health care, and true medical emergencies. The inmate is likely to be charged for all other care. This payment will be taken from the inmate’s commissary account.
Mississippi state law does require all inmates to have access to care when they need it. No inmate should be denied access to the medical team if they can not afford the co-payment; however, non-emergency care might be delayed when this is the case. Family members are encouraged to contribute funds to the prisoner’s account to help prevent a delay in care should it be needed.
Inmate Search
Even though the jail and county do not currently have official websites, the State of Mississippi provides the public with a method for searching for any inmate housed at any state-sanctioned facility. To run the inmate search, enter the individual’s inmate number or name into the search tool. The record contains information about where the inmate is being housed, details on the sentence and charges, and a mugshot. This record also contains a list of all location transfers.
The search results page also contains a direct link to the State of Mississippi’s victim notification system. This system allows anyone who is a victim or witness to a crime to register to receive notifications anytime the inmate associate with their case is transferred or released. It also allows the victim to participate in any parole or pardon considerations. The victim will be notified in advance of these types of hearings, and then they will be allowed to provide written or video statements. In order to participate in this program, the Crime Victim Notification Request Form must be submitted to the state.
Visiting an Inmate
The detention center allows each inmate to have one visitation day per week. There are no specific days reserved for visitation. The visit must be scheduled in advance. To schedule a visitation, call the jail directly at 662-489-3111. Visitation can be scheduled Monday thru Friday during business hours.
All visitors will be asked to show photo identification when arriving at the facility. No personal belongings will be allowed, and visitors should not attempt to give anything to the inmate. Doing so may cause the prisoner to lose visitation privileges and will ban the visitor from the facility.
Also, all visitors must follow a visitor dress code. No one wearing revealing clothing, including tank tops, midriffs, sleeveless shirts, or short shorts, will be allowed.
