The Pearl County River Jail in Mississippi is a county jail and prison that houses up to 150 inmates. It’s located in the southwest part of Mississippi in Poplarville. It’s a high-security facility as it holds inmates who are accused of assault and murder.

Inmate Items
While incarcerated at the Pearl County Rivier Jail, inmates are given select personal items. All clothes brought to the facility for the inmate to wear have to be new. Items that are sold individually have to have the original tags on them. People dropping off clothes must have a valid government ID to show.
Inmates can receive one box every six months with the approved clothing items. The box has to be no larger than 12X12X12. All clothing that the inmate receives has to be white, including underwear and socks. Inmates are allowed to receive one pair of white tennis shoes as well.
These restrictions are an effort to eliminate contraband being brought to the facility. Contraband is any item that the inmate is not allowed to have and can be taken away from the inmate.
Inmates can purchase items at the canteen for their personal use. They can access this store up to two times a week. Inmates that cannot afford to use the canteen and do not have someone bringing clothes from the outside will be given clean clothes, paper, and envelopes.
Visiting Inmates
Inmates can receive visitors both in person and through video chat. To visit an inmate via video chat, you must be pre-approved but the service is free. Video chat visits must be booked similarly to how physical visitations are approved.
Visitation is open every day except for holidays. On weekdays visiting hours are from 7:30 am to 9:00 pm. On weekends hours are from 7:30 am to 2:30 pm. Visitors and inmates are in charge of arranging their visits. All visits have to be made in advance and be approved.
Before arranging a visit with an inmate, visitors are encouraged to check the inmate’s list to ensure that they’re still at the facility. They should also check the jail docket to make sure that the inmate isn’t scheduled for a court appearance on the expected day of the visit.
Visitors must be dressed appropriately and show proper ID before visiting the inmate. Both the visitors and the inmate must behave appropriately during the visit. If these rules are not followed the visitors can be asked to leave.
