Shreveport City Jail is a male detention center situated at 755 Hope St, Shreveport, LA. The facility serves as a temporary holding for offenders arrested by the Shreveport Police Department and the Caddo Parish County Justice System. Most of the inmates housed here have been locally captured and are awaiting preliminary sentences or pending supplication. This means that those that are later sentenced for more than one year are often transferred to bigger State Prisons or federal correctional facilities.

Shreveport City Jail holds both small-level criminals and high-level criminals. High-level criminals are often charged with violent crimes such a murder, robbery with violence, or drug trafficking. These are temporarily held as they await their trials in the county justice system and will be transferred to Bureau of Prisons facilities of State prisons under the Louisiana Department of Corrections. Low-level criminals are charged with misdemeanors and are often released barely after 72 hours on bail or fined.

Inmate Housing

Shreveport City Jail offers temporary housing for inmates before they are released or transferred to bigger correctional facilities. The facility houses about 200 inmates held in holding pens. The security is top-notch owing to the dangerous nature of the hard crime offenders. The correctional officers are armed with maces and are highly trained to defend themselves, other inmates, or other jail stakeholders.

Searching for an Inmate

After every Shreveport City Jail booking, an inmate’s details are uploaded on multiple online databases where they are accessible to the public. However, the county has a most dependable inmate locator that allows you to acquire information about any inmate held at any of their facilities, including Shreveport Jail. This locator not only helps you track down your loved one but also gives you access to every other detail about them, including booking date, charges, bond details, release date, arrest date, among other important details.

Commissary Accounts

While in incarceration, offenders have limited access to many essential items that they could really need. The jail authorities provide basic needs, which could not be in the slightest way possible enough to get by in the tough jail life. As such, offenders held at this facility are allowed to have a commissary account that allows them to buy extra essential items such as toiletries, writing materials, hygiene items, snacks, clothing, playing cards, among others.

At Shreveport City Jail, the commissary day is held once a week, and if an inmate has money in their commissary account, they can buy these items. Consequently, an inmate’s loved one could deposit funds in the commissary account for them. You can deposit funds into an inmate’s account through the following approved ways:

Depositing Funds at the Facility

  • Onsite Physical Deposits

If you can easily access the facility or happen to drop by for a visit at Shreveport City Jail, you can deposit something into an inmate’s commissary account. There is helpful jail personnel onsite at the kiosk in the jail lobby to assist you accordingly.  This means of depositing allows you to use your debit and credit cards or even deposit in cash.

  • Online deposit

You can also deposit funds online via an authorized vendor such as MoneyGram and Western Union. The online means are arguably the fastest means of transfer, and funs will often reflect in an inmate’s account barely 30 minutes after a deposit. However, these means come along with a little expense; you will not only pay some dollars for the services, but you will also be forced to create an account with them.

  • Mail deposits

If you are limited by geographical distance and do not have a credit card or debit card, you can still send your loved one money via mail. The facility allows you to send money orders via the United States Post Office, Western Union, or a reputable bank. While mailing your order, ensure you address it properly with an inmate’s correct details. The mail should be addressed to the facility and the inmate name and identification number listed in the memo field. In case of any queries, you can call 318-677-5254 for assistance.

  • Phone Deposits

You can also send your cash on the phone with your debit card or credit card by engaging 318-677-5254. After providing the inmate’s full details, including full name and ID number, the operator on the other end will guide you accordingly.
