Fayette County Detention Center, KY is a medium-security county correctional facility situated at 600 Frankfort Cir Lexington, KY. The facility is locally run by the Sheriff’s Department and mostly holds inmates who are awaiting trials in the justice system. The facility also temporarily holds inmates arrested by the Lexington Police Department and the Marshal’s Service since such do not have sizeable holding facilities. The offenders held here are housed for not more than two years. Those sentenced for more than two years are transferred to other more extensive correctional facilities in the county or state.

Each year, the detention center has 16000 bookings, with a daily capacity of about 800 inmates under a staff of 200 individuals. The offenders held here range from low-level misdemeanor criminals to hard crime offenders awaiting trials for violent crimes such as rape, murder, and robbery. Fayette County Detention Center contracts Securus Technologies to offer inmate phone and email services. This company allows inmates to make calls through the following call arrangements:

  • Collect calls; this arrangement ensures that a call recipient incurs the costs of a call.
  • A debit call; before making a call, an inmate must have funds in their commissary account. The call costs are billed from the account.
  • Voice mail; Securus also allows inmates an inmate’s loved one to set up a private mailbox through which they can receive voice mails from their loved ones in jail.

The calls are scheduled at appointed times and are monitored for security reasons.

  • Commissary Refund Services

Inmates are allowed to release funds to their loved ones from their commissary accounts during the first seven days of their lockup. However, the special circumstances that may prompt such a transaction have to be critically assessed and approved by the center’s authorities. Inmates who have been released from the detention center can also get a refund of their funds. If you live more than 75 miles from the facility, you could request a mailing refund. However, the inmate has to present a notarized letter with the following details to receive the refund:
