Laurel County Detention Center, KY is a county detention center in London town, Kentucky. Opened in 1825, this is one of the oldest correctional facilities in the United States. It is named after the dense Laurel thickets growing along the Laurel River and is one of the county’s outstanding features. It sits on a 40 acre stretch of land and can hold up to 425 offenders at a time.
Laurel County Detention Center is classified as a medium-security facility, making security here relatively high. Most inmates are held awaiting their trials, while others anticipate judgment deliverance by the county and state justice systems.
