Massac County Jail has a prison commissary or inmate canteen where inmates can buy extra items that might not be provided by the jail’s authorities. While this correctional facility offers inmates basic needs such as food, shelter, and health services, there are other important additional items that inmates could need. Such items include supplementary food, hygiene products, utensils, writing materials, among other things.

Sending Funds

To purchase commissary items, inmates are required to have commissary accounts through which they can receive funds. The commissary accounts are often funded by an inmate’s loved ones and other people of goodwill. Inmates can receive money into their accounts through the following approved avenues:

  • Depositing at the Jail

You can deposit funds in person at the self-serve kiosk at the jail lobby. You can use cash or your debit and credit card. In case of any queries, you can engage the facility at 618-524-2912.

  • Depositing Online

You can also deposit online on www.JailATM.COM. This is the fastest way to transfer funds, but it comes with a small transaction fee. To send your funds, you visit the website, register an account, and deposit funds with your debit or credit card.

  • Depositing by Mail

This is still a good way to transfer funds, but it takes relatively more time to process than other means. You cannot send cash directly in mail; only mail orders are allowed. The mail orders have to be sent through the United States Postal Service, a reputable bank, or Western Union. When sending the mail order, ensure you enter the recipient’s name and ID number in the memo section of the order.

  • Depositing over the Phone

You can also contact JailATM on the phone and make your deposit over the phone. This allows you to use your credit or debit card. They have a telephone operator 24/7 who will guide you accordingly. However, you will be required to provide an inmate’s details such as full legal name and ID number.

Moreover, expenditure is also closely monitored to ensure that inmates don’t spend on illegal items, otherwise known as contrabands. In most facilities, the maximum amount of funds an inmate can spend on commissaries ranges between $ 300 and $ 400. Before you deposit funds, be keen to engage the facility at 618-524-2912 to establish the right amount you can deposit.
