The Adams County Jail is located in Council, ID. The facility within the county courthouse complex and is managed by the Adams County Sheriff’s Department.  The current address is 201 Industrial Avenue, Council, ID. The main jail office is open Monday thru Thursday from 7:30 am – 5:00 pm and Friday from 8:00 am – 12:00 pm. The office can be reached during these business hours by calling 208-253-4168.

Adams County Jail serves the cities of Council, New Meadows, and several other small communities in the county.  Adams County has a small population, with the 2010 census showing fewer than 4,00o full-time residents. The jail was built in 2000 at the existing courthouse complex.  It is a small, medium security jail that can house a maximum of 31 individuals but is rarely at full capacity.  Both male and female inmates are housed in the building.

The majority of individuals within the building are being held temporarily while they wait for a trial or until they have the opportunity to pay a bond.  Most offenses are minor misdemeanor-level charges. This means that inmates are rarely housed at the facility for extended amounts of time. It also may house convicted inmates serving short sentences.

Adams County Sherriff Rosters

Currently, Adams County does not have the jail’s roster posted to its official website. There are also no publicly available mugshots posted. If you need to find out if your loved one is being held at the facility, you should call the jail directly at (208)253-4163. The office will be able to help you locate the inmate and will be able to inform you of any potential charges or upcoming court appearances.

You may be able to run an online inmate search through the state of Idaho offender database. This offender database provides information for any inmate being housed anywhere in the state of Idaho and also shows their conviction. It does not show inmate mugshots.  It will display offenders currently on probation or parole. Finally, previous inmates who have already served their sentence will also appear in the database, but their convictions will not be available after the sentence has ended.

Any other basic information that is not included in the search can be requested by contacting the Idaho Department of Correction Records Information.

Visiting an Inmate

Adams County jail offers three visitation days each week.  Female and male visitation are offered at different times, and every inmate is allowed 30 minutes during each visitation day.

Visiting Hours:

Female inmates:

Sunday 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm
Tuesday 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Thursday 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm

Male inmates:

Sunday 2:30pm – 4:00pm
Tuesday 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm
Thursday 7:30 pm – 8:30 pm

There are no prescreening requirements for visitors. Individuals on felony probation will not be admitted. Anyone else over eighteen years old with a valid photo ID may visit an individual in jail housing.  Children or teens under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or their legal guardian at all times.

All visitors to the jail should be aware of any posted rules and take extra care to make sure that they are followed at all times.  Failure to follow visitation rules could likely prevent future visitation privileges.  Visitors who are unsure of what specific rules might be should contact the facility before they arrive for their visitation.

Assisting an Inmate

Family members and friends may not drop off any items at the jail intended for the inmate to use.  This includes items such as books, clothing, and food. Everything an inmate may need will either be provided by the county, or it can be purchased.

Cash or Money Orders may be dropped off at the front desk. No personal checks will be accepted for any reason.

Inmates will be allowed to make outgoing phone calls.  CTEL Consolidated Telecom handles billing for these calls. These calls are all collect, so friends and family should be aware that they must pay for them.  To do this, set up an account www.inmatesales.com or call 877-998-5678.  The jail does not allow prisoners to take incoming calls.

Once an inmate’s information has reached the county court, they might be eligible for bail.  After reviewing the charges, the judge can set a bail amount for the offender. Then the individual has the option to pay the bail amount to secure their release while they wait for their court date.  The amount required varies considerably based on the specific charge.

If an offender is unable to pay the bail amount, they will likely have the option to obtain a bail bond.  A bail bond is obtained by contacting a bail bondsman who agrees to post the bail amount.  The bondsman charges a fee and usually requires the inmate to pay an amount that is 10% of the bail total.

Once bail is paid or a bondsman is obtained, the offender agrees to appear before the court on their trial date.  Failure to appear before the judge will most likely result in additional charges and, most likely, a more severe sentence. The inmate’s family should encourage the inmate to make all court appearances as a schedule to prevent this from happening.

PREA Compliance

The Adams County Jail has fully integrated all of the requirements of the PREA (prison rape elimination act).  The Adams County Sheriff Department website includes both the operating guidelines for this act, as well as the facility’s most recent state audit report.  Families should be reassured that the Adams County Jail has taken measures to ensure the safety of their loved ones.
