Barrow County Detention Center is a medium-security level facility that can accommodate up to 372 inmates. This Detention Center is located at 652 Barrow Park Dr, Winder, GA 30680 and can be contacted through their phone number: 770-307-3084 or their fax: 770-307-3086.

For the most part, Barrow County Detention Center is used as a holding facility for both males and females that have been charged with an offense and are awaiting their court appearance or sentence.

Also, this facility is used as a place where certain offenders can be held while they are being transferred to another prison or for criminals who are sentenced to a year or less of imprisonment.

This Detention Center only holds adult offenders and uses inmate labor for litter control purposes along state and county roads. Also, inmates work some landscaping duties at specific county facilities during their sentence.

Barrow County Jail Inmates

The Barrow County inmate roster can be searched through online using the inmate lookup tool linked. You will only need to provide the name of the inmate and your search results will show their location, mugshots, and various personal information as well (age, sex, race, etc.).

You can also search for inmates in other Georgia jails by specifying what county they are located in and going through the same process as you would searching for an inmate in Barrow County.

Due to health concerns for both the inmates and visitors caused by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, in-person visits have been suspended at Barrow County Detention Center until further notice.

However, video visits are available to schedule, however, you will need to have a computer, webcam, and a stable internet connection to use this service.

To start you will need to visit this link and click “Sign Up” to create an account. You will need to fill in some personal information but, once your account is approved, you can begin scheduling virtual visits with an approved inmate.

The hours for visitation will be every day at:

  • 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM
  • 1:15 PM to 4:00 PM
  • 6:00 PM to 7:45 PM
  • 8:15 PM to 10:30 PM

Rules of Visitation

It is the inmate’s responsibility to inform their visitors of any changes to the rules of visitation at their facility. These rules are regarding in-person visitation as well but some rules also carry over to video visits as well.

Violating any of the visitation rules can result in the visit being terminated and future visits will no longer be allowed.

Money cannot be given to inmates at all and any cell phone must stay outside of the facility during your visit. Also, any device that can create audio or take photographs are not permitted inside the detention center.

In accordance with space restrictions, visits can be terminated to make room for other visitors based on how long the visit has gone on for. Of course, this does not apply to video visits and your minutes restrictions will be based on how many minutes you purchase through the video conferencing service.

Inmates will get a limited number of visits per week and these visits do not roll over to the next week if they are not used. Also, you will need to be on the inmates approved visitation list in order to visit them.

Additionally, a request for a visit can be denied by an inmate and the jail cannot force them to use their visit. In these cases, the visit will be terminated and future visits will be likely denied unless the inmate specifies otherwise.

There are also only certain people who can schedule a visit with an inmate. Among the list of people who cannot schedule a visit are:

  • A former inmate from any correctional system
  • Any person who is currently under parole
  • A current inmate who is under SIP status
  • Any Barrow County employee, current or former
  • Any volunteer working for Barrow County
  • A victim to the inmate’s crime
  • Visitors who have had their visiting privileges revoked
  • Anyone who has an active PFA against them

Regardless of whether or not the inmate has you on their approved visitation list, if any of these points apply to you, you will be denied visitation of any kind.

Also, during video calls, you will still not be allowed to wear any revealing clothing or commit any indecent or aggressive acts. This rule applies to in-person visits as well and many people believe that the video call is not monitored but this is absolutely not the case.

Additionally, any visitor who is under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult who is also approved on the inmate’s visitation list.
