Types of Correctional Facilities in District of Columbia

Do you know someone serving their sentence in the District of Columbia Department of Corrections? Inmates that are serving their sentences have their information stored in a database that family and friends are able to search. You will notice that the city jails of the District of Columbia are on individual websites. You can find more information, like how to conduct an inmate search, below!

Understand Inmate Services

When an inmate is in prison, they are not necessarily allowed to have access to everything someone in the outside world would have. There are certain inmate services put in place to not only serve the inmate, but also try to make it easier on friends and family communication wise. If you’d like access to everything from inmate locator to inmate search, then go to the DC website.

Automated Inmate Deposits

After you have located the inmate you’re looking for on the DOC website, you are probably wondering how to initiate funds.  During the intake process, all inmates are set up with a finance account. This account will hold any money the inmate earns or deposits that are sent directly to them.

Funds can be sent three different ways to inmates:

  • Online through Western Union
  • Walk-in (pay cash)
  • Telephone

Each way that you choose to pay has fees. Make sure you know the fees associated with depositing money into an inmates account.

Inmate Telephone Services

Are you looking to chat with an inmate on the telephone? You may find success by doing an inmate lookup and then following these directions to talk to an inmate on the telephone.

Offender Connect is the service that allows you to add money to the inmates phone to talk to them. If you’re a friend or family member of an inmate, you can add money from a credit card or a debit card, so you can talk to them on the phone.

Learn More About Visitation

After you have done an inmate search and discovered where your loved one is serving their prison time, you can schedule a visitation.

The DOC allows you to schedule a video online or schedule a face to face visitation. Each inmate is allowed 2 social visits a week. There is no charge for a face to face visit with an inmate. If you’re late to a visit, the visit is automatically canceled.

Eligible inmates are allowed face to face visitations, but you must schedule ahead and only on certain dates. Visitation hours are from 10 A.M. to 8 P.M.

If you’re looking for an inmate in the District of Columbia Department of Corrections, you will want to do a quick search. The search begins on the DOC website. You will need to know basic information of the inmate as this will make the lookup a lot easier.

Do you know someone in the DOC? Have you head to search for an inmate? What specific information are you looking for?
