Types of Correctional Facilities in California

Those who are sentenced in California State Prisons are overseen by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). You can easily search for an inmate in their centralized inmate database known as the BOP website. Keep in mind that only those sentenced to federal prison can be searched for on BOP. Those who are serving their time in county jails, police jails, or city jails will need to refer to those websites for inmate details.

Mission of the CDCR

Each state has its own mission when it comes to inmates. The California Department of Corrections is comprised of trained professionals that work hard to enhance public safety through safe and secure incarceration of offenders, effective parole supervision as well as rehabilitative strategies that successfully integrate offenders back into the community.
