Mohave County Jail, AZ is a medium-security detention center situated at 501 South Hwy 66 Kingman, AZ. The jail was named after the people of Mohave (Aha Makhav). It is operated by the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office and majorly hosts inmates awaiting trials or those sentenced for not more than two years. Most of these offenders are sourced from the surrounding municipalities, towns, the Kingman Police Department, and the US Marshal’s Service since such do not have long-term lock-up facilities.

Mohave County Jail, AZ, features a 242, 00 square foot facility. It was constructed in 1909-10 by Pauley and Co, architects. Then, it was designed to hold a 688-bed capacity and was said to be the most secure jails in Arizona. But later it was strategically configured to hold 1100 beds. The entire cost of reconstructing the facility was about $ 70 million.

In case an inmate has been transferred to another facility, you can only get their information by engaging the sheriff’s office.

Although information about all inmates incarcerated in county correctional facilities and detention centers is readily available on County’s websites, information about sex offenders is separately found on a special database. If an inmate is convicted of a sex-related crime such as rape, sexual assault, child pornography, sex trafficking, prostitution, or sexual abuse, they must be registered as a sex offender. It is a felony if an individual is convicted of prostitution and does not register with the state or County. The list of registered sex offenders in Mohave County can be traced through this link.

The booking process entails identifying the suspect and recording their arrest. An offender’s photo and fingerprints are taken, and they are asked to present their details; place of residence, workplace, and immigration status. Within 24 hours, the offender is then taken to court, where the judge establishes if they have a case to answer. When they are taken to court, they are entitled to:

  • A comprehensive explanation of their charges
  • A copy of the alleged charges
  • Notice of their legal rights
  • Representation by an attorney of their choice
  • A bail determination and a setting of a preliminary hearing date

After the hearing, the offender will either be released on bail or detained to wait for further court proceedings.

Bailing Out an Inmate

After the hearing, you can choose to bail out your loved ones to keep them from detention. To bail out an inmate from this facility, you have to do the following:

Engage a reputable bondsman; luckily, there are many licensed Bails and Bond Companies in Mohave County.

Deposit the bond via the authorized means. If the bond has been set under $920, you can deposit the funds via Touchpay with your credit or debit card. Touchpay allows you to deposit via their site or at their physical kiosk at the jail lobby.

If you do not need to engage a bondsman, you can directly pay your bond at the County court that imposed your bond.

Bond or Bail Determination

There are many outstanding factors that determine how much bail or bond an inmate is expected to pay. However, big crimes often attract higher bails than minor crimes. Other factors that determine an inmate’s bond or bail include:

  • Circumstance and nature of a specific crime
  • An inmate’s crime record
  • An inmate’s family ties
  • Employment record
  • Character and mental condition
  • Community ties
  • Financial status and resources

Purchase a Bail Bond in Mohave County

A bail bond comes with two attached engagements; The Premium fee portion and the collateral portion.

The Collateral Portion; to get bail, you have to secure it with collateral with a value greater than or equal to the bail. This is simply any salable property that can stand in place of bail if the inmate does not have the bail amount. This collateral is fully returned to the offender in case their case in court is dismissed.

Premium fees: the premium fees are often 10% of the total bond amount that the bailing company banks. It may also include associate fees such as storage, recording, travel, and phone calls, among others.

What Things Can you send an Inmate?

Jails, including Mohave County Jail, have strict rules regarding the entry of items, and of course, inmates have little or no access to most things that free people have. However, to make life a little bearable, offenders at this facility are allowed to receive the following items:

  • Mails

Offenders held at this facility have the privilege to receive and send clean letters to their friends and family members. However, the mailing endeavor is subject to inspection and has strict rules that both the sender and the receiver have to follow. Some of the rules are:

  • The letters must be written in blue, black or pencil.
  • Incoming mails should have a valid return address.
  • The mail content should be clean; not describe criminal activities such as the manufacture of weapons, drugs, gang art, or any other content that may compromise the facility’s security.
  • The mail should not advocate violence, ethnic purity, or racial supremacy.
  • Inmates cannot send mails to fellow inmates.

For your mails to be delivered to the intended inmate, the above rules must be acknowledged religiously.

  • Greeting Cards and Postcards

Inmates can also receive special occasions’ greeting cards and postcards. These cards are also strictly not allowed to have the following:

  • Sexually suggestive and gang-related content
  • Glitter
  • Stickers
  • Multi-colors
  • The cards should be plain white.
  • They should not be more than 4″ by 6″ in size.

You can send your loved one at Mohave County Jail these cards during their birthdays, Christmas, Mother’s Day, Thanksgiving, New Years’, Passover, Valentine’s, or any other holiday of your choice.

  • Books and Magazines

You can send books and magazines to your loved one held at this jail. Apart from getting released, sending a favorite publication is among the best things you can do for an inmate. This not only helps them to pass time but also to entertain themselves, which in the long run reflects positively on their rehabilitation.

While you are allowed to send an inmate their favorite publication, you cannot do so in an envelope. These have to be obtained directly from a certified and reputable publisher and must be accompanied by the inmate’s name fixed to the address label. You can get them an individual copy and sign them up for a monthly subscription, like in the case of periodical magazines.

Visitation Rules and Schedule

You can visit an inmate at Mohave County Jail as long as you pre-schedule your visit before setting foot at the facility. The Mohave County Sheriff’s Department encourages inmates’ loved ones to keep tabs on their loved ones in jail, and there is no better way than to visit them. However, like sending items at the facility, visits are also accompanied by rules and guidelines that have to be followed strictly.

There are many rules, but the following are among the most general ones:

  • Visitors have to dress modestly and appropriately; indecently dressed visitors exposing too much skin are not allowed.
  • A visitor has to provide valid identification.
  • Visitors must be 18 years and above. Children should be accompanied by adults.
  • Visitors have to be approved by the Arizona Criminal Justice Information system before they are allowed to visit.
  • Visitors have to be subjected to intense searches to prevent the entry of contrabands or other illegal items.
  • Visits are limited to 20 minutes a day, and if a visit is interrupted, it cannot resume.
  • No food, cell phones, drinks, purses, bags, cameras, or containers in the visiting area. All visitors’ items are to be left in the car or lockers provided at the jail lobby.
  • Only one visitor is allowed per time at the visiting area.
  • Visits are monitored and recorded for security reasons.
  • Recently released offenders or those on parole or probation are not allowed to visit. Moreover, dangerous wanted criminals cannot be let into the facility.
