The Elmore County Jail is in the east-central part of Alabama state in Wetumpka. It’s a medium-security facility that houses men and women inmates who are awaiting sentencing at trial. It also incarcerates inmates for violations and misdemeanors. Inmates at this facility can be searched through the publically available inmate roster.
The current Sheriff of Elmore County is Bill Franklin. His family has a long history in law enforcement and he is proud to bring that experience to the job. He was first elected in 1991. His office can be contacted at the number (334)567-5546.
The Sheriff’s Office operates to protect and serve the people of the county, especially the unincorporated parts of the county. To achieve this, the office functions with the help of local citizens to keep everyone safe. The Sheriff’s Office is also in charge of making sure that inmates at the jail are safe and are given adequate care.
Elmore County Jail Roster
Once a person has been arrested, they begin to be processed in the system. The processing starts by taking the individual’s name, birthday, and other personal information. The officers also take notes about details of the arrest and alleged crime. Along with the personal information that appears during an online inmate search, the mugshot of the inmate is also available.
When a person conducts an inmate search, all of this information and the mugshot that was taken after processing is available for the public to see. The inmate roster also includes released inmates. Released inmates may be out on bail or for other reasons, they will still appear in the inmate roster. This information may take a couple of days to be completely updated.
Inmate Searches
Inmates are subjected to searches to ensure that there is no contraband at the facility. Contraband is anything that an inmate is not allowed to have and can be removed from the inmate’s possession at any time. Contraband can be smuggled in the mail or during visits.
An inmate search can be conducted at any time to make sure that the inmate doesn’t have anything dangerous with them. If an inmate is found to violate having contraband on them, they are subject to be restricted from visitation and other privileges.
An inmate search is also conducted when an inmate first arrives at the facility. This is to make sure that nothing dangerous is being smuggled into the jail. This is typically one of the first steps while an inmate is being processed.
Connecting With an Inmate
Inmates and their loved ones are encouraged to remain in contact. Inmates can visit with loved ones over a video or phone call or through the mail. All forms of contact are a privilege and can be taken away from the inmate without warning to their family and friends.
Video visitations are currently the only way that inmates and their family and friends can see each other. These calls have to be arranged at least 48 hours beforehand, it’s up to the inmate and the visitor to arrange the date and time of the call. Inmates are allowed one visit per weekend.
Inmates make phone calls through a collect call system. To receive phone calls, the person receiving the calls has to set up an account. The account can be set up by calling 1-800-844-6591.
Inmates can only receive postcards at Elmore County Jail currently. Any letters or items sent in an envelope will be sent back to the sender. Inmates can receive two paperback books a month sent directly from the publisher, such as Amazon.
All forms of contact with an inmate can be expected to be monitored. This includes postcards and any meetings or phone calls. This is to protect the safety of the other inmates and people who work at the jail.
Before arranging contact with an inmate, it’s recommended that you check the inmate roster to ensure that they’re still being held at the facility. Inmates can be released without warning to family and friends. Conducting an inmate search will ensure that you have the most up to date information before contacting an inmate.
The Commissary Store
The Elmore County Jail works with Kimble’s commissary to provide personal items that inmates can purchase. All purchases are made with money from the inmate’s personal commissary account. This money comes from deposits that the inmate’s family and friends make.
A kiosk is in the lobby of the jail where family and friends can deposit money to the inmate. This kiosk accepts cash and debit and credit cards. Inmates cannot have cash with them while incarcerated.
Inmates are free to purchase whatever is available at the commissary store, though they are limited to spending $75 a week. Once they hit this limit, they can no longer make purchases at the store.
